Bernard Quaritch refers both to a person and the bookstore that he founded. The bookstore is located at 5-8 Lower John Street, Golden Square, London, or at www.quaritch.com.

Bernard Quaritch was born in 1819 in Worbis, near Göttingen, Germany. In 1842, he went to London, where he met Henry Bohn, the leading book dealer in London at the time. Quaritch opened his own bookstore in London in 1847. The bookstore grew and grew, producing larger and larger catalogs, which by the 1880s were in excess of 2000 pages. He was quite possibly the greatest book dealer who ever lived. Quaritch died in 1899.

The bookstore is a delightful place, though most everything there is outside the budget of most Everythingians.
