Auxesia and her companion Damia were two Cretan girls who came to Troezen, where they were by chance caught in a riot and were stoned to death by the mob. As an act of atonement they were made the objects of a cult and a festival was held in their honour. Auxesia and Damia were identified with Demeter and Persephone.
