7 Bars of Rest

It was 9:27 at night
And I was holding my violin
Surrounded by wailing
14 year olds
Screaming on their bows
For sleep
And it was
The Bach Double
I imagine, now
As I look back,
That I was never there
I wracked my brain
For any thought,
To turn my attention from
the skittering eigths
As my bow skittered across the string
And finding none,
No hold to place my mind upon
I came upon
7 bars of rest

It was silent
I remember feeling...
Something. For once.
