2SER, 107.3
FM. A
university/community
radio station with no agenda except to provide
Sydney with an
excellent underground radio alternative. Answerable to the University of Technology, Sydney, and Macquarie University, it's staffed mainly by
volunteers and funded by
listeners' donations. In return for becoming a
financial supporter, listeners can win all kinds of
free stuff and get discounts at certain stores--as well as have the
satisfaction of knowing you're supporting a broadcaster that's uncontaminated by
political pressure,
record label influence or
playlists.
It plays music you'd probably not hear anywhere else, and the range is huge. Individual shows are dedicated to Japanese pop, experimental noise, electronica, 60s soul, 70s punk, indie, metal, and more; and every weekday, noon-4 p.m. (as well as on certain nights), the whole spectrum of dance music (for want of a better term) is covered. Plus news, current affairs, science, literature, foreign language community broadcasts. Almost everything you'd ever want your ears to hear. Its website is www.2ser.com.
