One of the best ideas to come up in the early free & easy days of the wwweb: a webcam trained on a kitten, or kittens, in a small cage with food, a small litterbox, water, and a sign reading "Adopt this cat" with a number to call to pick up said kitten.

The number would be a humane society (don't know which one) -- this grew to a nationwide network of kittencam shelters (and puppycam shelters) when it was found that people were snapping up the kitties as fast as they became media stars. Me, I just loved watching the cats, although with low bandwidth it was less "watching the kitty wash her ear" than "looking at a kind of blurry cat whose image changed now and then".

It's gone now...but it doesn't mean it wasn't a good idea.
