The TV show isn't what I was hoping for. Here's why:

• The show is not on a deserted island, it is on an island with a luxury hotel on the other side.
• The contestants have an unlimited supply of condoms, tampons, and sunblock. Cheaters.
• They get food if they're hungry. They don't show you that. The people eating rat are doing it because they think it's fun.
• Instead of being a test of individual skills, they're organized into these hokey tribes, and the highlight of the program is a stupid game that has little or nothing to do with actually surviving on the island. The winning tribe gets an icon which suspiciously looks like a miniature totem pole that endows the team with immunity from having to vote one of their teammates off. When I first heard of the show, I was really hoping for a scenario like The Lord of the Flies.

So, instead of being a neat PBS-like real adventure show, or a live-action retelling of a literary classic, it's a tropical game show. Whoopee.
