Many people have been turned away from
Odyssey of the Mind since they decided to change the
program to a for-profit outfit. This has caused much outrange since Odyssey of the Mind is run mostly on
volunteer labor. This is quite a large criticism of the current program, and many of the
participants have fractured off, and created their own program, known as
Destination Imagination, a completely non-profit
organization.
After turning to a for-profit organization, they made several deals with large sponsors to change the program slightly, and to give it big name help. Because of these changes, the
Global Finals are now held at
Disney World, in
Florida, with the sponsorship of the
Disney corporation.
OM is an international program, with groups in almost every major state, and in many countries across the world.
