It's also said that he accidentally shot and killed Hollywood producer Thomas Ince (on his birthday, no less). He was aiming at Charlie Chaplin who was caught kissing Hearst's (and apparently Chaplin's) mistress, Marion Davies.
Morning papers ran headlines about the shooting, but shut their mouths soon after... Evening presses (i.e. Hearst's papers) saw him dying of "acute indigestion".
