Still life may be more conducive to oils
bright colors, muted textures

Ink, though more precise,
Is a series of incisions
Cold blooded

Whereas charcoal
Smooth imperfection
Spreads across the paper in waves
Capturing shadows and ripples

This ambiguity is the preferred medium for
our bodies
All the subtle textures of the human figure
The hilly spine,
Rolling muscles
and flowing mane
In blurred black and grey
Every shade of a body is in motion, even at rest
