An ignore List is a list of ID's of people who you do not want to communicate with or see.
Some ignore lists are kept server side while others are kept client side.
Personal advice: Use the clients that keep the list server side but maintain a client side list too. This means the client is smart enough to ignore the people you don't want to hear from.
