Macross II was an embarrassment to all involved. Although Haruhiko Mikimoto did do the character designs, Shoji Kawamori was not present for either writing duties or mechanical design.

The result? A bunch of great-looking characters and a story that bit the big one; not even the mecha were good. Macross II is now officially an "alternate universe", which gives you some idea of how nobody really wants to take credit for it.

The music was decent, if you like sugary J-Pop.

To be fair, this was the first anime I ever really got into. Yes, it still embarrasses me to this day. The fact that I liked it means I get to dis it. So there.
