To get into 3d you're much better off going to a computer animation or design course in a reputable college. Some people have a natural talent for drawing & designing which will get you so far, but for most people a proper education with qualified talented intsructors will take you further than you possibly could ever imagine.

A lot of people are self-taught in the 3d world, but being taught professionally about walk-cycles and learning about traditional animation techniques will not only provide you with inter disciplanary skills but will invaluably increase your professionalism. College/University is a way to explore your talents and challenge yourself that is nearly impossible any other way.

An dyou also won't have to feel guilty about ripping off software.
