When the time comes
we will all wake up one morning and the birds
          will be singing

When the time comes
people will cry and smile and not know why

When the time comes
strangers will stop in the street and greet each
other like long-lost siblings, which they will be

When the time comes
it will not be with shame, but with love

When the time comes
$300 and a gold ring will be three pieces of paper
          and something shiny

When the time comes
five little girls will sit in the street and sing,
no one will tell them to move. Cars will back up
for miles, everybody sticking ears out their
windows, straining to hear; then just singing themselves.

When the time comes
no one will say a word

When the time comes
a little boy will get lost in a public place, a woman
will comfort him; she will be his mother. A man
will bring him ice cream; he will be his father.

When the time comes
the rifles will sue for negligence

When the time comes
          everyone will get laid

When the time comes
people will run out their houses inviting everyone
to tea, repeating miracles with loaves and fishes
that will only seem like normal, everyday events.

When the time comes
the time will be 5:26 pm in every house on earth,
the second hand daring not to advance

When the time comes
we will fear nothing and live forever

When the time comes
it will be also for the apple tree, and for the sand castle

When the time comes
no one will need your name

When the time comes
not one person will lie face against the wall, there
will be no walls, we will tear down brick and light
          picket fence with moonshine

When the time comes
we will no longer bend our wings to kneel

When the time comes
          sunlight will be accepted currency

When the time comes
fathers and sons will become sons and fathers,
mothers and daughters will be daughters and
mothers. Everyone will behave responsibly and
          uncivilized.

When the time comes
we will give like a coconut and take like a beet

When the revolution comes
it will not be a revolution, it will not be something
to be lost or won. It will take the entire destruction
and creation of our own minds. There will be a harmony.
We will struggle, and we will dance,
as the underground, rises, to breathe.
