The term used to refer to the outskirts of a town, or the area just before you leave it, and enter into a different location in the universe.

Is it just me or is it ridiculously hard to form a decent thought when in a state of angry exhaustion?

Any way, the edge of town.. it's just a good term, that's all, people use it a lot, and it seems to be efficient. I live on the edge of my town, the very last house before there is nothing but highway for a while. There is a house a little ways down, that would be on the "outskirts" of my town, because it's not in any town of its own.
