In Japanese grammar, sentence particles are particles that are usually placed at the end of a sentence and modify the entire thing. They are used to make the sentence into a question, to add emphasis, or to soften the sentence (directness is considered impolite when speaking Japanese). Examples include ka, yo, ne, and sometimes ga.
