The term "pure energy" is something frequently heard in cheesy sci-fi, but it really makes no sense whatsoever. Energy is always in some form, and associated with something. For example, if I lift a brick off the ground, it gains potential energy. If I then throw it at whoever created this nodeshell, it gains kinetic energy. If I put his head between the plates of a large capacitor, then there is energy stored in the electric field. If I shine a laser at his retina, the photons carry energy proportinal to their frequency.
