Photonic property of a material refers to its ability to generate, modulate, amplify, and receive light. Photonic materials have a band gap property that either blocks a certain frequency of light, or transmits a certain frequency of light. This property allows very precise control of light, and is of great interest to the telecommunications, and optoelectronic industries.
