These were used a lot in the mid to late 80's. They were a promotional stunt used to impress pre-teen girls. Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Tommy Page, and many more pop singers used these to gain popularity. When I think of mall concerts, I think of large hoop earrings, LA Gear sneakers, rave hairspray, and slap bracelets.
