Not to be confused with the down low, lowdown means what it says. It describes a person who is, mean, despicable, rotten. No good, spiteful, hateful. Corrupt, vicious, evil.

Most often heard in Westerns:
CowboyOne: They shot Jake up at the ranch!!!
CowboyTwo: Let's go get the lowdown varmints!!!

Yes, often used in conjunction with varmint.
