Well, uh, it could have some uses, hey, maybe you wanted a core file to debug (or possibly reverse engineer?).
It's good for cheap laughs on a friend's box to fool them into thinking he has faulty hardware! For getting a core file, I'd rather use gcore or, failing that, kill -6. Moral of the story: use kill -11 when you're on someone else's computer, then tell them their RAM must be going bad. >:)
