Located in San Mateo, California, this company ("Gravis" = Latin for "heavy") produces gamepads, joysticks and other PC game controllers. It was founded in 1985 by "two serious gamers" (quote www.gravis.com).

These days, Gravis still produces popular game controllers like the Xterminator, Eliminator and Destroyer series. They have discontinued their series of soundcards (such as the Gravis Ultrasound, an extremely popular soundcard in it's time), though, and now only concentrate on controllers.
