(plural) garments

Sacred clothing worn under everyday clothing symbolizing eternal commitments and covenants with God. Abraham and other Old Testament prophets had sacred garments, and even today some religions still use garments as a symbol and reminder of sacred oaths and covenants.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who have entered the temple for their first endowments covenant to wear garments as a daily reminder of the sanctity of these commitments. The garments are always white two-piece cotton/nylon underclothing (knee-length shorts and shirts which cover the shoulder). The garments are not worn for physical exercise, swimming, etc.

This is more accurate under the garments node as there is never a single garment (these are not a coat of many colors), but some editor under the guise of klaproth decided to consolidate e2 and put it here.

Gar"ment (?), n. [OE. garnement, OF. garnement, garniment, fr. garnir to garnish. See Garnish.]

Any article of clothing, as a coat, a gown, etc.

No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto old garment. Matt. ix. 16.
