Someone who assists in the production and interpretation of a theatrical work. Often includes preparing background information for performers and directors. The information may concern the playwright, the social context of the play or the time. One of the tasks of the dramaturge may be to make certain that actors aren't completely anachronistic in their interpretation of a dated piece, or that they understand references and allusions in a text from a foreign culture.
