A formation of the solid phase of water in which the standard ice crystalline phase of matter is not evident, i.e. having a higher entropy than ice in it's commonly known formation. Amorphous solid water lacks the standard hexagonal-crystal structure, and is often seen in scientific low-temperature systems in which water is deposited upon a substrate at temperatures close to the freezing point of water.
