A quote from something, somewhere, that just immediately struck me as true. Refers, I suppose, to circumstances beyond one's control, positive or negative serendipity and synchronicity, and all those random, unpredictable things in life that so often gang alay, resulting in your plans, hopes and dreams being blown to bits.

Of course, what the original quote didn't consider is that the Universe also gets the last move, the handicap, the wild cards, and the trumps. And the curve ball, no penalty for tilt, and an Ace up the sleeve.

Some points to consider:

• If it's Go (presumably on a 361x361 goban), this means the Universe is Black.
• If it's Othello (or Reversi), this means the Universe is at a disadvantage!
• But it's probably Hex. In Hex, we know the first player has a winning strategy, and we don't know what it is!
