In some countries, this album included a bonus disc with rez and born slippy.NUXX.

There have never been official releases of the lyrics to any Underworld songs (except born slippy.NUXX) since the idea is that not only the meaning of the lyrics, but the lyrics themselves are open to interpretation.

Second Toughest in the Infants was released in 1996 on Junior Boy's Own Records in the UK, and TVT/Wax Trax! Records in the United States after a significant recording hiatus, well, except for born slippy. It is Underworld's second album, and it spawned only one single: pearl's girl, which was released in approximately 400,000 different versions with a variety of remixes and b-sides. Wax Trax! released a 12" with rowla on one side and juanita on the other, but without remixes or real b-sides, so that doesn't count.

The first half hour of this album is quite possibly the finest half hour of dance music that has yet to be produced. In 1996, many of the big name British dance groups were trying to work some drum and bass into their tracks; this includes Orbital and Faithless, but not Leftfield as they were having legal issues at the time. People will probably say that Underworld was the only successful bunch with such experiments, with banstyle/sappy's curry.

After the release of this album, Underworld played at Organic, and in Boston for the only time until 1999.
