As well as being a mythical weapon (see The Fortress Unvanquishable, save for Sacnoth), Sacnoth is the name of a small Japanese videogame company. It was "spun-off" from SNK by a group of employees who wanted to concentrate on RPG games. Their works so far include Dive Alert (two versions) and Faselei! for the NeoGeo Pocket Color, and Koudelka, a full-length RPG for the Sony Playstation, set, surprisingly, in Wales. The best of these is undoubtedly Faselei!, but all of their games boast exemplary character design and a unique visual style. Currently, Sacnoth are part of SNK's parent company Aruze. Their latest game is Shadow Hearts, a Victorian-themed RPG with a new combat system, for release on Playstation 2.
