Mauna Loa (meaning "Long Mountain"), the world's largest and one of the most active volcanoes, is located on the island of Hawaii, and comprises about 85% of the entire area of the Hawaiian Island Chain. Mauna Loa is a shield volcano which rises 13,380 feet (4,170 meters) above sea level.
