The Manufacturer’s Prefix is the first six to eight digits of a UPC bar code. This sequence of numbers differentiates one specific company from every other company that manufactures products in the United States. Manufacturer’s Prefixes are assigned by the Uniform Code Council, the American agency in charge of setting specifications and standardizations for many different kinds of bar codes.
