United Pan-European Communications. A Dutch internet and telecommunications company. A big cooperation, with a de facto monpoly on cable internet access in Europe. The cable access is delivered through Chello, their ISP. They offer telephone services and real broadband service if you want to pay for it. Normal customers have to settle for 40 kb/sec.

Mostly known for 1 hour waiting on the phone to reach support and ripping customers off.

(In Norway, the goverment raised sales tax 1% from 23% to 24%. At the same time UPC raised the monthly bill for basic subscription from 295 NOK to 349 NOK, blaming it on the tax increase while raising the outbound traffic rate symbolicaly.)
