北    (キタ)

Japanese for "north:" you've probably already seen the kanji while playing mah-jongg on your computer.

Kita is also one of the wards of Osaka, and consists of Umeda, Nakanoshima, Nakatsu, and the area around Tenjimbashisujirokuchome. When flying over Osaka, you'll probably notice Kita because it's where some of Osaka's tallest buildings are, including the Sky Building and the Ritz-Carlton. JR Osaka Station is in Kita, as are the termini of the Hankyu and Hanshin railways.

In Tokyo, Kita Ward includes the districts of Oji, Akabane, Jujo, and Tabata.
