中之島 - An island in the middle of Osaka, Japan, near the Umeda area. Its name literally means "island in the middle," as it sits between the Tosa Canal and Dojima River, two branches of the Old Yodogawa. In the 1700's, Nakanoshima was where many samurai families kept their houses.

Today, Nakanoshima is where Osaka City Hall, the Bank of Japan, the Rihga Royal Hotel, the Osaka Science Museum, and Ogimachi Senior High School are all located. There are no train stations on the island itself, but it is close to the Osaka City Subway stations at Yodoyabashi and Higobashi, as well as the JR and Hankyu stations at Umeda.
