John Raymond Hope (May 14, 1919 - June 13, 2002) was the renowned Senior Hurricane Specialist at The Weather Channel for 20 years. Hope would regularly appear on the channel with live scientific and color commentary about hurricanes threatening the United States and in progress around the world.

The John R. Hope Scholarship in Atmospheric Sciences was set up by The Weather Channel in 2000 and is administered by the American Meteorological Society.

Hope died from complications related to his heart surgery and is survived by his wife Bernice Hope, daughter Camille L. Hope, sons James C. Hope, Thomas D. Hope, Joseph R. Hope, brother Leonard Hope and six grandchildren.

He was 83 years old.
