The world is a beautiful place.
She spun around and the the snow flew as her heels danced to whatever sound she had in her head. She had been listening to Tchaikovsky for the last week. He could hear the music swirl up to the clouded sky as he watched her in the new white world that had fallen on them as they slept.
She had a red scarf and light cherry-colored lips. Her faded blue eyes sparkled in amongst the wind as he held out his hand and begged her back into the warm. She shook her head mischievously and scampered further into the whiteness, towards the dark trees that surrounded the house. She grinned impishly at him and he scowled and stayed on the borderline between the house and snow. He hated cold weather, he preferred the sun and soft, wispy clouds. He shivered and watched her dance in and out of the trees, seducing him further with each lovely smile.
He stepped onto the snow and it crackled under his feet. He wanted to step where her gentle feet had churned up the snow but he did not want to ruin the spell her dancing steps had woven on the ground. He took her elbows and stopped her mid spin.
"I'm here now. What do you want?" He scowled at her for pulling him out into her frozen realm.
She linked her hand with his and placed his other on her waist.
"Dance with me."
He smiled sheepishly but complied. The snow crunched as the stepped and swayed. Shivering, he stepped closer into her and lent his head against her shoulder. They were nearly the same height, so it was comfortable. He could hear music and he lent his ear against her lips so he could listen to her humming some tune he recognized but did not know the name of.
Together they swayed alone in the world to music that could barely be heard above the soft hushed falling of snowflakes. The dark trees arched high above them in a huddled, shivering mass. A bird, somewhere, fluttered its wings free of snow. The house sat in the background like a contented observer. The world under the snow was a simple, happy place.
The cold wind bit into him and his hair turned frosty-white with bits of snow. He shivered again and she laughed a beautiful song that pealed out into the hushed world.
"Do you want my jacket?" She teased and he pretended to smile. He brushed his cold lips against her cold skin and sighed.
"Can we go inside, now?"
