Hydrocortisone is the hormone secreted by the outer layer of the adrenal gland. It affects the following -

1. The metabolism of carbohydrate, protein, and fat
2. The maturing of white blood cells
3. The retention of salt and water in the body
4. The activity of the nervous system
5. The regulation of blood pressure

Because of all of the above, it is used for many medical purposes which include reducing severe non-infectious
inflammations.
