The French translation of Douglas Hofstadter's pulitzer prize winning Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid.

As Hofstadter is a fluent French speaker, he actively took part in the difficult task of tranlating his own work along with professional translators Jacqueline Henry and Robert French. This was the first translation of GEB into a foreign language and Hofstadter believes it to be a very significant work in its own right. It includes an interesting section not in the original about how the translation came about and certain difficult problems this entailed. This section is illustrated thusly:

Original English version published by Basic Books in 1979, French version finally published by InterEditions in 1985.
