National anthem of Sweden, originally based on a Swedish folk song from the region Västmanland. The lyrics are written by Rickard Dybeck and were first performed in 1844. It's been the national anthem since 1866. Normally only the two first verses are sung.

Du gamla, Du fria, Du fjällhöga nord,
Du tysta, Du glädjerika sköna!
Jag hälsar Dig, vänaste land uppå jord,
: Din sol, Din himmel, Dina ängder gröna. :

And for the few of you who still haven't learned enough Swedish to understand what the lyrics are about, I have made a rough translation. Please bear in mind that these lyrics were written during the national romantic era of the 19th century.

You old, You free, You mountainous north,
You silent, You delightfully beautiful.
I greet You, most beautiful country on earth,
Your sun, Your sky, Your green meadows.

You are enthronedon memories of days of glory,
when Your name was honoured all over the world.
I know that You are and the You will be what You were.
Yes, I want to live, I want to die in the North1

I still want to serve You, my beloved country,
and swear that I will be faithful to You until death.
Your rights I will guard with mind and hand,
Your heroic flag carried high.

I will fight with God, for home and for house,
for Sweden, the beloved mother land.
I will not exchange you for all in the world.
No, I want to live, I want to di in the North.

1 "Norden" is normally the Nordic countries, i.e. Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, but in this case Norden refers to Sweden only.
