This is where you go
rock climbing with no ropes, over
deep water. You typically want to be doing this on a
cliff that's
overhung, also, otherwise the soft
cushiony effect of the
water is somewhat negated by the bits of
cliff you have to bounce off before you get to it, should you
fall (and you should, it's a wicked rush).
The main problem with DWS, apart from, obviously, the
fear, is that of your
chalk bag getting soaked. The best thing to do is either to chalk up thoroughly beforehand, or not to fall off.
For me, this is the best, simplest, purest form of
climbing there is. On a hot
summers day, you can forget about
ropes,
gear, all that
crap. No need to worry about
safety, you've got a nice soft
sea to fall into. Just climb.
Maybe go for a nice, if unintended,
swim.
