Michael Stipe's favorite potential title for the R.E.M. album named Out of Time. According to the band, they post a sheet of paper whenever they need an album title, and the band members write suggestions. They came down to the wire with nothing better than "Cat Butt", and when their label told them they were "out of time" to choose a name, it kind of stuck.
This little tidbit was actually culled from an MTV interview/show/documentary/thing several years ago, but an excellent overall source for all things R.E.M. is a book by Marcus Gray called It Crawled from the South: An R.E.M. Companion
