Ben Wallace is the
power forward for the
Detroit Pistons. He graduated from
Virginia Union in
1996 and was undrafted. He signed as a
free agent with the
Washington Wizards and played there for 3 years, before
moving on to the
Orlando Magic. In
2000 he was part of a trade that sent him and
Chucky Atkins to the
Pistons for
Grant Hill.
Ben Wallace has become a
fan favorite around
Detroit. For his play and his crazy
hair. Some times he has it all tucked in nicely in
corn rows, and other times he lets it flow, which results in about a foot long
afro. He is the only player in
NBA history to have two different
bobble heads modeled after him, one for each
hair-do.
Ben is a
tenacious rebounder and a
stingy defensive player. He is the heart and soul of a resurgent
Pistons team. In the 01-02
season he led the league in
rebounds and
blocked shots. Becoming only the fourth player ever to do that.
Hakeem Olajuwon,
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and
Bill Walton are the others.
Ben is the only non-center out of the group. Ben was named the 2002 NBA defensive player of the year.
