The Greek goddess of deceit - daughter of Nyx, or Night. Born with Philotes and Geras. Her Roman counterpart is Dolus.

Unfathered daughter of Nyx, born along with Philotes (friendship), and Geras (old age), Apate is the female personification of deceit.

Apate was also one of the spirits contained in Pandora's Box, loosed on the world by human curiosity.

"Also deadly Nyx bare Nemesis... and after her, Apate and Philotes and hateful Geras." -Theogony 224

Apate's siblings are: Cer, Thanatos, Hypnos, Oneiros, Moros, Nemesis, Oizys, Momus, Philotes, Geras, Eris, as well as the three Fates: Clotho, Laechisis, Atropos.
