Borth is a small Welsh village located within the parish of Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn in the county of Ceredigion in Wales. It lies on the coast overlooking Cardigan bay some six miles north of Aberystwyth.
An old fishing hamlet Borth developed into a seaside resort with the arrival of the railways in the nineteenth century - Borth retains a railway station which links to the main Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury line. It remains popular with families due to the shallow gradient of the beach and is also popular with surfers.
Borth itself consists of little more than a single street facing the beach which is almost completely deserted out of season. It features a small zoo known as The Animalarium and the Borth and Ynyslas Golf Club which claims to be the oldest golf course in Wales. Nearby are the Ynyslas and Ynys Hir nature reserves as well as the famous Borth Bog or the Cors Coch Fochno which is a notable lowland raised bog and a UNESCO world heritage site.
At extreme low tide you can still see the remains of the submerged forest at Borth which many believe to be the origin of the legend of Cantre'r Gwaelod.
