Any astronomical object which requires a large amount of light gathering power and is extremely far away (relative to the solar system), such as:

• planetary nebulae
• distant open clusters
• globular clusters
• emission nebulae
• reflection nebula
• other galaxies (i.e. - not the Milky Way)
• galaxy clusters
