Ludgate Circus is a road junction in the City of
London. Despite the name, it's a
crossroads and not a
roundabout. To the east,
Ludgate Hill rises toward
St Paul's Cathedral. To the west,
Fleet Street leads off toward
Westminster.
Farringdon Street runs northward under
Holborn Viaduct, and
New Bridge Street leads due south to
Blackfriars Bridge. The Circus and the roads north and south lie on the course of the now-hidden
Fleet River, which gives its name to Fleet Street.
On the south-east corner is a branch of
Waterstone's, incorporating a
Coffee Republic. On the north-east corner is the Old King Lud pub. And behind the buildings to the south-west is the
wedding cake spire of
St Bride's, Fleet Street.
