Neat-looking mineral, usually an opaque pink or red with veins of black manganese oxide running through it (it was once called "pink turquoise" for the way it looked like turquoise done in a different color scheme). It's also rarely found as transparent crystals. Much of the world's supply is found on Vancouver Island, Canada, but Australia, Sweden and Russia also produce it. Very tough and used for carving as well as in cabochons for jewelry.
