The question
Number Six asks Number Two during the opening credits of the television series
The Prisoner. It is the answer to this question --
Who is reponsible for my being a prisoner here? Who is behind all this? -- that the nameless hero pursues throughout the series.
In each opening sequence but the last, Number Two responds as if he did not hear the question: "You are Number Six." But in the last episode, the line is delivered with a subtle and startling change in emphasis:
"You are, Number Six."
