Why is it possible that one can
experience too much
positive sensory input to the extent that it is either negated or perceived as
negative input? This has really been pissing me off...It simply does not seem fair that when I surround myself with
beautiful flowers, I
sneeze.
Or when I listen to
music for too long, I get a
headache.
Or when I spend all day in an
art museum I just want to go home and
close my eyes.
Or when
I stand on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea, I get
inertia and have to turn away.
Or when I spend ten minutes in a
candle shop testing every scent, I can no longer distinguish different
fragrances.
I don't know if there is a god, but if in fact there exists a benevolent creator who placed such beauty in life, I hope this sensation of overload occurs because he wants beauty to be experienced in moderation so we learn to appreciate it more and not take it for granted. Yet I wonder how many people appreciate it at all...
