Happened to read an article by Jeannette J. Lee in the Laramie Daily Boomerang about Whittier. It brought back memories. Some 60 years ago I was stationed at Whittier as a member of Company A, 599th Composite Service Battalion. There wasn't any town of any significane. Just wooden barracks and a large messhall.
The mess hall besides serving the army also fed Alaska railroaders (for a fee).
There were a few residents though we didn't visit with them. Entertainment was lacking. A USO group did visit one time. Much much snow. Had to shovel up to get it off the roof of barracks. Would like to hear more about the "museum".
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who was stationed in Whittier. Further info about B&B facilities would be welcome. Maybe the City Manage could contain me.
