This book is a sequel to Chaim Potok's novel My Name is Asher Lev. In this story, Asher Lev is a world renowned artist. He has also married and has two children of his own. His unease with his parents and the Crown Heights Jewish community has lead him to isolate his family in the south of France. He continues to be an observant Jew, but it's on a trip home to New York that he realizes where his children, especially his son, belong even if he cannot follow them.
