The Tom-Gallon Award is a biennial prize for a short story which was established in 1943 by Nellie Tom-Gallon in memory of her brother and is administered by the Society of Authors.
Submissions may be published or unpublished, but must be in English and of a "traditional rather than experimental character". In addition the author must be a citizen of the United Kingdom, the British Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland and have had at least one short story published or accepted for publication. Entrants are also required to sign a statement to confirm that they would spend a substantial amount of their time writing fiction if they were financially able to do so. One must assume that it was the intention that the award of the £1,000 prize money would enable the winner to do just that.
